About Zork Games

A free browser game site. One person builds it.

Who runs this

Juan

My name is Juan. I built this site and I run it on my own.

I am learning to code, and building browser game sites is how I am doing it. The projects are small enough to actually finish, and at the end there is something real that other people can use. Zork Games is the first one. I plan to build more.

There is a bit more on my author page, which also lists everything I have written here.

What I want this site to be

Three things. Free to use. Easy to get around. Suitable for any age.

The last one shapes most of the work. Games that are violent, or built around gambling, or that use characters the developer does not own, do not go on the site. That rules out a large share of what is available. It is the main reason the catalogue is a few hundred games and not several thousand.

Easy to get around means no pop-ups, no countdown timers, no autoplaying video, and no buttons that do something other than what they say. Games load when you click play, not before. I would rather the site be slightly plain than annoying.

Free means free. There is nothing to sign up for and no account to make. The site is paid for by advertising.

How games are chosen

I should be straight about this. I pull from a large catalogue of licensed HTML5 games and then filter it down hard. I have not personally played every game on the site, and I would be lying if I said otherwise.

What I do is set the rules for what is allowed, apply them, and write the description on every page myself. Roughly one game in seventy from the source catalogue makes it through. Most of what gets removed is removed for content reasons, or because it is a clone trading on a character the developer has no rights to. A lot of it is also the same game listed several times under different names.

Anything I cannot confidently sort into a category gets dropped instead of filed somewhere convenient. That is why there are seven categories and not twenty.

Rules I follow

Nothing unscreened

Gambling, adult and violent content is excluded. So are clones using characters their developers do not own. Games I cannot categorise confidently are dropped.

No dark patterns

No countdown timers, no pop-ups, no fake urgency, no misleading buttons. The site is built to help you play games, not to trick you.

Developers keep their credit

Games are embedded through GameMonetize, which licenses them. I never strip developer branding or their in-game ads. That is their income, not mine.

A few hundred, not thousands

A smaller catalogue I can stand behind beats a huge one padded out with whatever was left over. Every category is filled to the same depth.

Where the games come from

Every game here comes through GameMonetize, a licensing platform that works directly with developers to make their HTML5 games available for embedding. Developers keep their in-game branding, their SDK, and their advertising revenue. I operate under their publisher terms.

This is not the same as sites that copy games without asking. GameMonetize has agreements with the developers whose games appear here, and those developers are paid when their games are played. When you play something on this site, the person who made it gets credit for it.

Suggestions and problems

If a game is broken, or you think something on the site should not be here, tell me and I will look at it. If you know a game that belongs here, I want to hear about that too. The address is on the contact page.
