About Backroom Exit

Backroom Exit puts you inside a maze of yellow walls and empty corridors with a single objective: find the way out. It is a first-person escape game, so progress comes from looking carefully rather than moving quickly. The loop is search, gather, deduce. You explore the environment hunting for hidden objects, collect clues from what you find, and work out how the pieces connect — some puzzles require combining items you are carrying rather than using them individually. The atmosphere does a lot of the work here; the emptiness and repetition of the corridors are the point, and the tension comes from not knowing how much of the space you have actually covered.

How to Play

Use WASD or the arrow keys to move and the mouse to look around. Left-click to interact with objects and the environment, and use the mouse scroll wheel to swap between items in your inventory. On touch devices, move with the on-screen joypad, interact using the hand button, and tap inventory items to equip them.

Tips & Tricks

Check your inventory whenever you hit a wall in progress — several puzzles need two items combined rather than one used alone, so an object that seemed useless when you picked it up may be half of a solution. Because the corridors repeat visually, try to move through the space methodically rather than wandering; retracing ground you have already searched is the main way time gets lost here.
